  • 2 cloves garlic, minced fresh is ideal for flavor; jarred can work in a pinch
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning or a mix of your favorite herbs like oregano and thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste don’t skimp on the seasoning!
For Serving
  • 2 cups marinara sauce homemade is best, but jarred can save time

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). This step is crucial for crispy, golden meatballs.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, egg, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Using clean hands, mix until just combined—overmixing can lead to tough meatballs.
  3. Scoop out about 1 tablespoon of the mixture and roll it into a ball, about 1 inch in diameter. Repeat until all mixture is used.
  4. Place the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper for easy cleanup and even cooking.
Cooking
  1. Bake the meatballs for 20-25 minutes or until browned and cooked through. Use a meat thermometer to ensure they reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C); they should be golden brown and fragrant.
  2. While the meatballs are baking, heat the marinara sauce in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Once baked, carefully add the meatballs to the simmering sauce and let them cook together for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Notes

Quality Counts: Choose high-quality meats and cheese for the best results. Allow cooked meatballs to cool completely before transferring them to an airtight container. They can last up to 3 days in the fridge or up to 3 months in the freezer.
